Our Cremation Process
1. Bringing Your Loved One into Our Care
When you contact us, our caring team will arrange to bring your loved one into our care, no matter where they are in the Lower North Island. They will be treated with the utmost dignity and respect at our facility while we prepare for the cremation.
2. Expert Paperwork Management
We will handle all the necessary legal documentation on your behalf, from registering the death with Births, Deaths and Marriages to obtaining all the required medical certificates. Our goal is to make this process seamless and stress-free for you.
3. The Cremation
Once all the paperwork is complete, we'll proceed with the cremation. Your loved one will be placed in a simple and dignified cremation casket, and we promise to continue treating them with the greatest respect.
4. The Return of the Ashes
After the cremation is complete, we'll notify you that the ashes are ready. Whether you're in the Manawatū region or elsewhere in the Lower North Island, we'll ensure they are returned to you safely and securely.
We also offer a selection of special urns as a dignified alternative to the standard urn included with the packages.
Choosing an upgraded urn allows you to select a beautiful vessel that reflects your loved one's unique personality and legacy. This can be a very meaningful way to honor their memory.
Please let us know if you would like to view our full range of urns.

Cremation Options for a Personal Tribute
Cremation provides families with the freedom to choose how they wish to honor their loved one. Some of the most popular options include:
-
Scattering Ashes
Scattering ashes at a special place—whether at sea, in a memorial garden, or another meaningful location. -
Dividing Ashes
Families may choose to divide ashes, allowing each person to keep a portion in a meaningful urn or location. -
Creating a Memorial
Many families opt to create a lasting memorial by placing ashes in a cemetery, garden, or another significant place. -
Ashes into Jewelry
A unique and personal option is turning ashes into jewelry—such as a pendant, bracelet, or ring—allowing you to keep your loved one close in a meaningful way.
We are here to help guide you through these options and provide support in creating a fitting tribute.
What to Expect During the Cremation Process
Here’s an overview of the cremation process at Everlight Cremations:
-
The Cremation Process
The body is placed inside a casket, which is then placed into a cremator. High temperatures (between 760°C and 982°C) reduce the body to ash over a period of 2 to 4 hours. Only one casket is cremated at a time, ensuring the ashes are never mixed with others. -
After Cremation
Once cremation is complete, the ashes are processed and placed into a simple plastic container (approximately 30 cm long and 15 cm deep). The ashes can then be transferred into a personalized urn of your choice.
Choosing a Final Resting Place
After cremation, you have several options for handling the ashes:
-
Cemetery Burial
Many families choose to bury the ashes in a cemetery or memorial garden. -
Scattering Ashes
Ashes can be scattered in a meaningful location, such as a favorite place or near a family plot. -
Turning Ashes into Jewelry
Transforming ashes into jewelry offers a unique, personal keepsake that you can carry with you, such as a pendant, ring, or bracelet. -
Cultural Considerations
If scattering ashes, please ensure the location is not near any traditional Māori food gathering grounds to respect cultural practices.
